My work and life as a Montréal graphic design student
Who Am I?
Hi, my name is Félix, and I’m the proud owner of this portfolio! I’m an 18-year-old, second-year student in Graphic and Web Design at John Abbott College in Montréal’s West Island. My favourite thing in the whole world is snowboarding, but I also adore skateboarding and surfing. Honestly, anything that involves a board under my feet, I’m in! I’m also a travelling adept. I love to go around the world to learn more about various cultures, experience new things, meet awesome people, and eat great meals. I’m also a huge geek; I adore Science Fiction, Superhero movies, fantasy sagas, anything pop culture, really!
Am I from Montréal?
I live in the Greater Montréal Area, off the island, near a town called Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. I commute to school by car every day; it’s usually around a 30-minute drive, if traffic is not too bad! When I graduate, I will most definitely move downtown.
What kind of graphic design do I do?
Even though we are trained in all aspects of graphic design at John Abbott. I have a particular affection for creating print projects. Particularly posters, flyers, menus, etc. I adore being able to physically hold the final product of my work in my hands after the dreadful hours spent on it!
When will I start my graphic design Career?
I’m still kind of uncertain about what the future holds for me and my career. Right now, I believe that I will probably be heading to university after graduating in May 2028. I’m thinking of maybe studying marketing, but again, nothing is set in stone. As of right now, when time permits, I’m always down to take on a few small projects! I’ll for sure join the Montréal Graphic Design scene at some point!
Why did I choose graphic design?
I chose this career path because I’ve always loved the arts. At some point, I wanted to become a film director, be able to bring vision to product, and use different technological tools. I’ve also always loved to draw. Let’s just say that the desire to create was always ingrained in me. I believe that there are two things that redirected that love for creation to graphic design. First, evolving for many years inside the snowboarding and skateboarding culture really made me appreciate the different graphics, magazines, logos, etc. and how big of a role they play in affecting people. Second, my uncle, who is one of my main inspirations in life, also studied graphic design, and since he is one of the coolest people I know, I wanted to follow a similar path to his.
